This fun, college-themed poem captures the excitement of Thanksgiving break as students push through last-minute cramming.

‘Twas the night before Thanksgiving break, and all through the dorm,
Not a student was sleeping, which had become the norm.
The textbooks were stacked by the laptops with care,
In hopes that a break soon would finally be there.

The students were nestled all stressed in their beds,
While visions of home-cooked meals danced in their heads.
And I in my pjs, and my roommate in sweats,
Had just settled down for a long night of frets.

When out in the quad there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my desk to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the blinds, nearly tripped on my trash.

The streetlights shone down on the campus so bright,
And I wondered if we’d survive finals all right.
When what to my studying eyes did appear,
But the glimmer of freedom, Thanksgiving was near!

With a pile of laundry and essays to pack,
I knew that Thanksgiving was a one-week hack.
More rapid than Wi-Fi my study plans came,
And I grumbled and sighed as I called them by name:

“Now Netflix! Now Naps! Now catching up, too!
On Ramen! On Coffee! On sleep long past due!
To the end of this cram! To the end of it all!
Now break away, break away—Thanksgiving calls!

So I plugged in my laptop, and finished my grind,
Leaving stress and assignments and deadlines behind.
And I heard myself cheer as I dashed out of sight,
“Happy Thanksgiving to all, and to all a good night!”
